Today is the National Day of Prayer for those affected and hurting by Hurricane Harvey. This caused me to recall Jesus’s words in Matthew 18:19-20: “19. Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. 20. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” [NKJV].
Today a comment was left on my post from yesterday which reminded me that our President called for a National Day of Prayer today, Sunday September 3, 2017. I finally pulled up the video and watched him sign the declaration with leaders of Faith surrounding him. They laid their hands on his shoulder and prayed for the hurting from the storm and for our Country. Watching the video and recognizing leadership demonstrated moved me to write this post this morning.
I realized at that moment we finally have a leader in President Trump that stands up and prays for our Country. In my lifetime there have been very few national leaders that will stand for prayer. Oh yes, they will go to the annual prayer breakfast and make all the right “political” noises but, actually be brave enough to stand with their higher power? No, I have not seen this in action in a very long time.
I also realized our government is ruled by fear. Afraid of what people will think, say, or do. Afraid of the media. Afraid of doing what was right. Calling us to prayer is something to be afraid of in this system. Fear is not from God. When people are suffering, prayer no matter your Faith, prayer is the right response. Fear is not. I hope the fear will leave our Country and we will again be free to worship in the way we choose.
Our President has asked us to join together in prayer today. In my Faith this is a call to follow Jesus’s words in Matthew 18:19-20. In my Catholic Faith I am praying with my congregation, my little prayer in yesterday’s post, and a Rosary for the people affected by and working in the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey.
When we unite our prayers today, we are uniting with prayerful people all over the world for our restoration in Texas, Louisiana, and beyond. If this speaks to you too, thank you for joining with people of faith in America and lifting your heart in prayer.
Love and Prayers,
Milly.
