via Daily Prompt: Messy

I found a Shamrock!

Let’s get Messy! Okay this is yesterday’s daily prompt in WordPress. I saw it this morning. I couldn’t resist the word. Maybe it’s life? Maybe it’s the laundry detergent on the floor? But, I’m getting my Hot Mess on! Let’s Go!

Today I’m having a small party lunch. This is a big deal for me. I hate entertaining! I don’t do it much. Hence, without the practice I’m not good at the whole entertaining thing. But, I really wanted to celebrate being declared “healthy.”

The testing and biopsy worried me. God and I together fought fear and worry. The need for the tests reminded me are no guarantees and that we live day by day with our higher power. The clean test results had me wanting to celebrate with the ones closest to me. I invited my moms, princes and princesses.

It was time to clean up my act! Yesterday I spent time clearing the detritus of life from all the surfaces in the common areas. Dusting and cleaning as we went. With the youngest prince’s help we had the place in respectable shape in a couple of hours. Not too shabby!

Usually I agonize over what to serve. Who likes what and making sure everyone has something they like to eat and drink. Well, I threw that idea out. Too tempting for me! I decided to serve a Milly Menu!  These are foodstuffs that don’t cause me pain. I have made lots of changes in my diet over the last two years (Thank you Dr. B!). So my family will be dining on what Milly eats!

  • Veggie Chips and Gluten Free Granola from Trader Joe’s
  • Mixed Fruit Salad
  • Green Salad and fixings
  • Turkey Lettuce Wraps
  • Riced Cauliflower Veggie Stir fry
  • Gluten Free Paleo Carrot Muffins
  • Gluten Free Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • Carrot cake (this is for my Husband’s birthday! not for me!)
    • If someone doesn’t like the rest of it. I guess they can eat the cake! {Grin}

Looking around last night I was pleased with the work youngest prince and I completed. I had shopped in the morning. I had all the ingredients to get started. I even sat down for some relaxation by writing. Even my spring headache and ringing ears settled down. Yes, spring has sprung in SoFlo! That means lots of pollen… Achoo!

Anyway I was writing at the dining table and hear a crash in the laundry room! I race through the galley kitchen. I skidded to a stop. I try to take in what I’m looking at. My head starts to pound. It finally registers, the laundry detergent fell off the shelf onto the washer. The cap had popped off (still haven’t found it yet!). Detergent was dumping all over the floor.

It was like slapstick in action. I wade into the layer of soap on the floor. I tip the container up to stop the spill.  Of course, it is the Costco size liquid laundry detergent I bought on Thursday. I just stood there dumb founded. Soap is all over the washer, dryer, and floor. The throw rug is half-soaked in detergent. I don’t have a clue as to how to clean this up. This has never happened to me before! Let alone before a party! What a HOT MESS!

I got the soap off the washer and dryer. I was able to sop up most of what was on the floor with dirty towels (I won’t need detergent for that load! I just hope the washer doesn’t over-suds! hee hee!). The floor was still slippery. It was late. So I did what any girl would do. I put towels on the floor and took a shower! My feet must have been coated in soap because I almost landed on my tail in the shower! Here’s danger of cleaning up a cleaning product: Slippery feet!

As I write this, I need to make my turkey filling for the wraps and clean up a messy floor in the laundry room. I need to Google “how to clean soap off of tile HELP!” Oh I forgot to run the dishwasher last night! Gotta go! Cookin’ and Cleanin’ I go! I wonder if the towels will stick to the floor…

Party on my Friends!
