Back in the Swing…

…of things. At least that is how the old saying goes. Day three of the twelve days and I don’t have a lot to say. Here’s what happened today.

The wind has been howling all day. The sky is bleak and spitting rain. It looks like a winter day that would bring relief from SoFlo’s* oppressive heat. This week forecast only predicts temps climbing into the eighties with higher humidity. {sigh}

I was back at work today. I worked my computer hard to get caught up enough to take tomorrow off. I’m excited and nervous about tomorrow. So, I spent my evening prepping for another writer’s critique group.

I figured I should try more than one. I really did like the first group and they seemed to like me. The first group meets the first Thursday of the month in the evening. I’m looking forward to going back next week.

This group meets twice a month on assigned Friday mornings.  I’m not sure I want to take off that much time from work. I do need to meet other writers and figure out what will work best for my writing.

It feels like going to a new job. I don’t know people in the writing community. I feel awkward and inadequate. I hope they will like me. I hope my writing will measure up.

I find the timing interesting. Dad passed away in November. Life came to a grinding halt. Bam! The holidays started. The obligations and fun began. We also began Advent reminding me to pull closer to God as the world spins into a holiday frenzy.

Christmas day is the culmination of the frenzy for most Americans. Then Boom! A day or two after Christmas you’re back at work. Everyday reality is back. I didn’t want to be back. I was having fun; with my husband in the Oldest City, family conversation over Cornish hens, and kicking back after cleaning up the tree.

In my faith, Christmas day is a beginning. It starts the Christmas season. A season of celebrating the gift of the Messiah from God Almighty himself. In my calendar, the twelve days of Christmas also starts a new year of hopes, goals, and dreams.

It is time to get back in the swing of things. It is time to get back to life. For me it is working my job to the end and taking those baby steps towards my dreams. Even if it means being critiqued!

Here We Go! Enjoy!
